Actor Mohanlal visited Malayalam writer and orator Sukumar Azhikode at Amala Hospital on Monday . Mohanlal who reached the hospital by 2 pm, spent five minutes there.
Azhikode passed away on Tuesday morning after his condition deteriorated in the past few days.
In 1986, he retired as pro-vice chancellor of Calicut University. The 85-year-old bachelor won 12 awards, including the Sahitya Akademi award.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visited Azhikode after the medical bulletin was released. He had earlier announced that the state government would foot the writer's medical bills.
