Columbian film bags Suvarna Chakoram in IFFK

Columbian film ''The Colours of the Mountains'', a modern-day portrayal of life in the mountainous Columbian countryside by Carlos Cesar Arbelaez, won the coveted Suvarna Chakoram (Golden Crow Pheasant) at the 16th International Film Festival of Kerala here Friday.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh and a memento.
A total of 11 films from Asia, Latin America and Africa vied for the Suvarna Chakoram at the eight-day event, which concluded today.

Minister for Cinema K B Ganesh Kumar distributed the awards in the presence of Jury chairman Bruce Beresford, Bollywood director Subhash Ghai and Kerala State Chalachitra Academy chairman Priyadarsahan.

The Rajatha Chakoram (Silver Crow Pheasant) for best director went to Hamid Reza Aligholian for his Iranian film 'Flamingo No.13' and the award for the best debut film to 'A Stone's Throw Away' by Mexican director Sebastian Hiriat.

The FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) award went to Turkish film 'Future Lasts Forever' by Ozcan Alper.

The critics' award for best Malayalam film went to 'Aadaminte Makan Abu' (Abu, son of Aadam) by Salim Ahmed, India's Oscar entry for the best foreign film this year.

The NETPAC (Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema) award for the best Asian film was bagged by 'At the End of It All' by Bengali director Aditi Roy and their award for the best Malayalam film went to 'Aadaminte Makan Abu'.

The audience poll award was won by 'The Painting Lesson', Spanish film by Pablo Perelman.

The Hasan Kutty award instituted by Meera Nair for the best Indian film was also fetched by 'Aadaminte Makan Abu'.

Other films competed in the section are 'The Cat Vanishes' (Argentina) by Carlos Sorin, 'Black Blood' (China) by Miaoyan Zhang, 'Delhi in a Day' by Prashant Nair, 'The Dreams of Elibidi' (Kenya) by Nick Reding and 'The Body' (Turkey) by Mustafa Nuri.
